Battle Quest Comics at the Boise Comics Arts Festival
At the end of August, Lee Moyer (writer and colorist of The Trident of Aurelia) and Aaron McConnell (illustrator of No’madd: The Unconquerable, The Young No’madds) went back to the Boise Comic Arts Festival. We asked Lee Moyer to write down his thoughts:
“The Boise Comic Art Festival – hosted by the marvelous staff of the Boise Library, and free to all attendees – is simply the best!
Battle Quest has supported this noble endeavor for three years, and it’s been a joy to watch it thrive as it’s travelled from a rained-out day at the Zoo to a brimming convention center.
Before the show began downtown, Aaron McConnell travelled to the suburbs to speak with high school students while I went to (fellow BCAF sponsors) the College of Idaho. There, I spoke to staff and students, attended a gallery show of my work in the college’s magnificent new library, and did a book-signing at Caldwell’s Shared Stories.
Once the show opened, I was delighted to find that Shared Stories was our neighbor in the hall. Amid the avid cosplayers and ongoing panels and workshops, Aaron and I gave away many comics from the Battle Quest table. He managed some drawing, but I just talked to the attendees and amazing guests. They ranged from friends (Jess Smiley, Andy Runton, Sam Fortner), to folks whose names I knew but hadn’t met (Joelle Jones and Ryan North), to new friends (Bre Indigo, D. Bradford Gambles, Mike Laughead), to the young artists I critiqued (among whom, Adria Bower’s work really stood out).”
